Lenny & Larry’s

Two brothers set out to find a new way to run a bakery; a new twist on a business that was already well represented where they lived. Their new twist turned out to be mixing something special into cookies in order to make them more satisfying than all the rest; even better than their well-tested and delicious recipes. They came up with a novel idea; a real niche in the bakery market: protein cookies.

Making History with Cookies

That’s when brothers Lenny & Larry took the plunge and developed their product: non-GMO, kosher, vegan cookies: just like mother would make except better, with more nutrition and in 11 flavors. Since 1993, the brothers have been developing food that’s good enough for an athlete to turn to in a time of protein crisis. Those include bars, brownies, and muffins.

The Complete CookieWhat’s in a Protein Cookie?

Firstly, you need to know these are not foods made in laboratories or factories but in a real bakery. Secondly, they are made by masters of the art using the best ingredients.

These include foods from renewable, sustainable sources, no soy, and plenty of fiber. There’s no dairy of any kind or high fructose corn syrup in their cookies.

Since eggs are animal protein, they aren’t included in any of their cookie recipes either, cholesterol doesn’t make an appearance, and there are no chemicals or sugar alcohols. All sweeteners are natural.

The Complete Cookie

So what is in Lenny & Larry’s cookies? They contain enriched wheat flour, iron, niacin, a plant-based protein blend, molasses, palm oil, butter, and more. Everything is natural, resulting in a cookie that’s both great-tasting and good for you.

Two cookies are worth 180 calories and packs of 16 cost just about $30.00 or so at Amazon.

There are 8g of fiber and 16g of protein in each cookie. Try Chocolate Chip, Snickerdoodle, Coconut Chocolate Chip, Double Chocolate, Peanut Butter, or Birthday Cake.

Muscle Muffin

Enjoy 5g of fiber and 15g of protein without foregoing your favorite breakfast: a muffin. Lenny & Larry break away from their dairy and egg-free ways with this recipe in four flavors: Pumpkin, Blueberry, Double Chocolate, and Banana. Purchase a package of 12 for $24.99.

Muscle Brownies

Choose one of 3 flavors or buy an assortment. The varieties are Cookies n’ Cream, Triple Chocolate, and Peanut Butter. Packs of 12 cost $24.99. Again, the vegan/dairy-free category is only for cookies. These goodies contain everything, including 10g of protein from soy and whey.

Selling Out?

What should one make of the promises above followed by changes to the ideal in recipes which followed? I feel as though the first part is misleading. They omitted animal by-products, milk, and soy for good reasons as far as Lenny & Larry’s were concerned 23 years ago.

What’s supposed to have changed? Their research and beliefs surely didn’t give way. They must have discovered how hard it is to make muffins without eggs and dairy and then, after that, why carry on leaving those things out?

And soy gets into everything. It’s almost as prevalent as sugar and flour in the processed food market. How could they avoid it? Well, Lenny & Larry’s could have managed but might have had to create a more expensive product in the end.

Also, where are the options for gluten-free consumers? Would something like that be in the works? Again, this would certainly add to the cost, but gluten-free customers are used to paying extra for taking things out of their food.
