The Center's History
The Center for Health Transformation was launched in 2003 as a project of the Gingrich Group, a consulting firm founded in 1999 by Newt Gingrich and specializing in transformational change.
Due to Speaker Gingrich’s extensive work on and commitment to healthcare issues during his Congressional career, the health and healthcare practice was by design the most active Gingrich Group practice area. In working with clients in that area, it became increasingly evident that many of the challenges they faced reflected the need for system-wide change – a change that we believed could be dramatically accelerated by networking together our clients and other transformational leaders into a collaborative partnership for change.
In September and October of 2002, we began holding meetings both internally with our clients and with other transformational thinkers and leaders to discuss the vision of a Center for Health Transformation. These conversations and ideas led to the establishment of the Center in January of 2003 and the subsequent release in May 2003 of the book Saving Lives and Saving Money, which describes the Center’s vision of a 21st century system of health and healthcare.

| September 2002 | Discussions and planning begin for the development of the Center for Health Transformation. |
| January 2003 | The Center for Health Transformation is established as a project of the Gingrich Group. |
| April 2003 | The Center's website www.healthtransformation.net is launched. |
| May 2003 | A press advisory officially announcing the Center and the publication of Saving Lives and Saving Money is released. |
| July 2003 | The first monthly e-newsletter is created and distributed. |
| September 2003 | The first member-only teleconference is held. |
| January 2004 | The first member-only meeting is held in Washington, DC. |
| September 2004 | The Center for Health Transformation, as a physical site, separate from the Gingrich Group, is opened at 1425 K Street, Northwest in Washington, DC. |
| September 2005 | The Center for Health Transformation launches its first "Creating a 21st Century Medicaid System" event in Washington, DC, which later becomes an annual event. |
| March 2006 | The Center for Health Transformation moves to larger office space at 1425 K Street, Northwest in Washington, DC. |
| March 2006 | The Center for Health Transformation opens a physical site in Atlanta, Georgia, located in the Northcentral / Perimeter market area near Buckhead. |
| November 2006 | The Center for Health Transformation publishes its first book by CHT Press titled, The Art of Transformation, written by CHT founder Newt Gingrich and CHT CEO Nancy Desmond. |
| April 2007 | The Center for Health Transformation moves toward national expansion with the launch of the Missouri Project. |
| June 2007 | CHT Press releases a new book, Paper Kills: Transforming Health and Healthcare with Information Technology, edited by Project Director, David Merritt and featuring an introduction from CHT founder Newt Gingrich. |
| July 2007 | CHT Press releases Implementing the Art of Transformation: The Workbook, a step-by-step guide to understanding and implementing transformation for citizens, businesses, and government leaders by CHT founder Newt Gingrich and CHT CEO Nancy Desmond. |
| February 2008 | The Center for Health Transformation's David Merritt receives the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) “Book of the Year Award” for outstanding practical guidance and strategic insight for healthcare information and management systems professionals. Merritt, a project director for The Center, received the award as editor for Paper Kills: Transforming Health and Healthcare with Information Technology, published by CHT Press |
