Remarks by:

Healthcare remains the last major industry still clinging to technology from long ago. For the rest of society we have advances in technology that were unimaginable just a few short years ago. Yet even the most basic technologies have yet to make their way into healthcare. That must change. Replacing paper prescriptions with electronic prescribing tools can be an important push to make this change happen, and a bipartisan effort will make all the difference.

Former Speaker Newt Gingrich and Senator John Kerry recently co-authored an editorial in The Wall Street Journal (below) on how electronic prescribing saves lives and saves money and how to overcome the barriers to widespread adoption.

Speaker Gingrich and Senator Kerry will be joined at a Capitol Hill briefing by Senators Debbie Stabenow and John Ensign as well as Dr. Andrew Warner to discuss what the federal government can do to make physician adoption of e-prescribing a priority.
