Center Project Director, Jim Frogue Speaks at an Educational Session Hosted by the AMA

Date:  March 31, 2008

Location:  Washington, DC

Jim Frogue spoke to a group of 300 medical students on March 31st as part of an educational session hosted by the American Medical Association. The students gathered in Washington, D.C. from around the country as part of AMA’s Medical Student, Resident and Fellow Lobby Day, intended to engage the students in legislative issues related to healthcare. Jim focused his speech, titled, “Saving Lives and Saving Money: Transforming Health and Healthcare,” on a revolution towards a consumer-centric healthcare system that focuses on communication between doctors and patients; a shift in culture, giving the poor access to more resources; cash exchange in the form of a transparent pricing system; and competition, in which doctors are held accountable for quality care. In addition, Jim discussed the fraud problems and wasted care that are currently overwhelming the Medicaid system and punishing honest practitioners. Jim concluded by encouraging the students, as the next generation of doctors, to take an active role in changing the current state of healthcare.
