Newt Gingrich, former Speaker of the House and Founder of the Center for Health Transformation, served as the keynote speaker at the first Novo Nordisk Diabetes Summit, held March 31 through April 3, 2005 at the Wyndham Anatole in Dallas, Texas. The summit's theme, "Changing the Course of Diabetes for Good," reflected the mission of the participants to catalyze a fundamental transformation in the current diabetes healthcare system. The summit was a call-to-action to all those who believe that America must make significant progress in diabetes management. Also participating in the event, and introduced by Speaker Gingrich, was Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Administrator Mark McClellan, MD, who discussed the economic and policy factors influencing medical treatment decisions and health outcomes today.
