Medicaid Transformation Project

The CHT October Member Teleconference focused on the Medicaid Transformation project. Specifically, we talked about our successful September 20th event, “Creating a 21st Century Medicaid System,” and discussed next steps. We also outlined our activities in states that are leading the Medicaid transformation movement and provided an update on the current frenzied activity on Medicaid in Congress.

We were honored to be joined by a special guest, Dr. Jacques Chaoulli, a medical doctor from Quebec, Canada. Dr. Chaoulli single-handedly won the most significant victory for Canadian healthcare consumers in Canada’s history: In June of 2005, the Canadian Supreme Court ruled that Canadian citizens do have the right to purchase their own services outside of Canada’s single-payer system. Dr. Chaoulli will give a brief summary of his historic breakthrough and discuss the private sector opportunities in healthcare now available in Canada.
