Washington, December 4, 2006: Bringing together national and state policy and industry experts to discuss consumer-centric approaches to public healthcare, Newt Gingrich’s Center for Health Transformation and ValueOptions will co-host “Consumer-Centric Medicaid: A 21st Century System,” as part of Consumer Health World’s pre-conference workshop series on December 11, 2006, at the Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington, D.C. Attendees will also get a preview of the 2007 Medicaid Commission Report.

“The Medicaid system faces many challenges in the years to come,” said Newt Gingrich, former Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives and founder of the Center for Health Transformation. “States across the country have shown they are ready and willing to take the lead in exploring transformational solutions that will improve care and access for people in need.”

Barbara Hill, CEO of ValueOptions adds, “It is no secret that meaningful change needs to occur in most states, but transforming healthcare is no small task. It means pooling funding to improve administrative efficiency, providing services that address lifestyle concerns -- like homelessness and addiction -- and placing more emphasis on behavioral health. This workshop will drive the debate forward, and help states to determine the appropriate time to make changes.”

The workshop will be an open forum that encourages attendee participation. Participants will explore the public health delivery problems facing Americans today and will also discuss:
  • Existing state initiatives and developing legislation toward Medicaid consumerism
  • Key insights and strategies around the Deficit Reduction Act
  • Impacts on disadvantaged and special needs populations
  • Federal and state support mechanisms, political issues and barriers to implementation
  • Designing the ideal Medicaid healthcare delivery system
The full workshop agenda is available at http://www.consumerhealthworld.com/medicaid.aspx, including online registration as well as information about the larger Consumer Health World conference. Workshop attendance is $195. A press briefing is scheduled for Monday, December 11, 2006 at 2:45 pm to discuss the issues with Newt Gingrich and Barbara Hill. Media credentials will be required.
