Evidence Based Medicine and Comparative Effectiveness Research
Date: August 13, 2009
Time: 2:00 PM Eastern
The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (Stimulus Bill) included $1.1 billion to fund comparative effectiveness research (CER), which is designed to evaluate the relative economic and clinical value of medical treatments by disease state with the goal of making the healthcare system more efficient. This has the potential to radically change U.S. marketplace dynamics for all segments involved in healthcare delivery. The evidence base it provides will be used to improve the quality of outcomes and also has the potential to impact services and related government payments.
