On September 17, 2007, the Center for Health Transformation and Booz Allen Hamilton engaged nearly 80 leaders from both public and private sectors in a simulation to explore how to address the challenge associated with Alzheimer's disease. Booz Allen developed and conducted this strategic event to examine how collaboration across the megacommunity can enhance prevention, detection, treatment and care to mitigate the impact of Alzheimer's disease on patients, caregivers and society.
In this call, we will report on the key findings from this event. We will also brief you on important follow-on activities and outline how your organization can become engaged in these critical next steps.
The focus of these follow-on activities over the next six months will be providing expert advice to the Alzheimer’s Study Group (ASG) while establishing the core mechanisms needed to move the megacommunity forward on next steps. The aim is to have this community in place and prepared to implement relevant portions of the ASG’s key recommendations.
The ASG is a taskforce of national leaders, co-chaired by former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, founder of the Center for Health Transformation, and former Senator Bob Kerrey, president of The New School. Among its members are former Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor, and former heads of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), and the U.S. Public Health Service.
The discussion will highlight how your organization can play a pivotal role in the next steps both for the megacommunity and in contributing to the ASG’s work – work that through its focus on cross-cutting issues ranging from regulatory approval to reimbursement decisions holds the promise of shaping health policy discussions far beyond Alzheimer’s disease itself.
