On Wednesday, February 14th, the CHT Member Teleconference focused on the importance of consumerism in the states. CHT Founder Newt Gingrich discussed several states that are demonstrating models of consumerism. In addition, we featured an exclusive update by Georgia State Senator Judson Hill, who highlighted some current legislation introduced in the Georgia General Assembly which addressed: providing coverage for the uninsured; providing incentives for healthcare providers to invest in health information technology; providing quality and price information for consumers (transparency); expanding the role of consumer-driven healthcare; providing incentives for preventative care and wellness programs; and, creating opportunities for the expansion of health savings accounts (HSAs) and health reimbursement accounts (HRAs). Senator Hill chaired the Georgia Healthcare Transformation Senate Study Committee which held a series of hearings.
