Bridges to Excellence

In association with Bridges to Excellence (BTE) and the Center for Health Transformation's Healthy Georgia Diabetes and Obesity Project, a number of large employers are implementing the BTE Diabetes Care Link (DCL) Program in Georgia. This program is about paying incentives to physicians who practice best standards of diabetes care and encouraging individuals with diabetes to see those physicians to improve their quality of life and avoid the long-term complications that so often accompany this disease. In the process, physicians are rewarded for providing high quality care, individuals with diabetes become healthier and employers save money.

Bridges to Excellence and the Diabetic Physician Recognition Program

Bridges to Excellence (BTE) is a not-for-profit organization developed by employers, physicians, health care services researchers and other industry experts with a simple mission: to create significant leaps in the quality of care by recognizing and rewarding health care providers who demonstrate comprehensive solutions in the management of patients and deliver safe, timely, effective, efficient, equitable and patient-centered care.

BTE's mission is accomplished by designing incentive programs to provide financial rewards to physicians who meet standardized, expert-based performance measures. In 2006, participating Georgia employers will implement BTE 's Diabetes Care Link Program, which incorporates recognition from the National Committee on Quality Assurance's (NCQA) Diabetes Physician Recognition Program (DPRP). The measures for this program have been developed by NCQA and the American Diabetes Association. Through this program, Georgia physicians who demonstrate that they provide high quality care to their diabetic patients who are covered by a participating employer will receive annual incentive payments.

The Healthy Georgia Diabetes and Obesity Project

The Healthy Georgia Diabetes and Obesity Project is being coordinated by the Center for Health Transformation, a collaboration of private and public sector leaders dedicated to the creation of a 21st Century Intelligent Health System that we believe will save lives, improve the quality of life, and save money. Creating a system of better health at lower cost in Georgia is one of the major undertakings of the Center; the Healthy Georgia Diabetes and Obesity Project is one part of that effort.
