America's Health Care Town Hall
Date: August 15, 2009
Location: Atlanta, GA
Nancy Desmond, President and CEO of the Center for Health Transformation, participated in a panel discussion about transforming America's health care system utilizing free market principles before a crowd of 12,000 on Saturday, Aug. 9, 2009 at Atlanta's Centennial Olympic Park.
The crowd was part of America's Health Care Town Hall, perhaps the largest health care town hall to date, as citizens assembled to express their concerns about President Barack Obama's efforts to reform health care.
Desmond spoke about the Center's new book, "Stop Paying the Crooks," and how more than 10 percent of Medicare and Medicaid currently is being paid to those who purposely defraud the public health care system -- not billing errors. She said until we get a handle on fraud in America's current public health insurance programs, there should be no consideration of new or expanded public programs. The crowd responded with enthusiastic cheers.
The panel was moderated by nationally syndicated talk show host Hermain Cain and included other participants such as Dr. David Westbrook, President of the Consumer First Health Network and Dr. M. Todd Williamson, President of the Medical Association of Georgia.
