The Center for Health Transformation held its quarterly member meeting, Creating a 21st Century Intelligent Health System, Thursday, March 19, 2009 at Gallup Headquarters in Omaha, Nebraska. Leading the overall day along with the ongoing 21st Century Intelligent Hospital Project at the Center for Health Transformation were Laura Linn, Project Director and Melissa Ferguson, Vice President of Operations.

Center for Health Transformation (CHT) members gathered for a day of panelist presentations and discussions on the importance of creating a 21st Century Intelligent Health System, the morning began with opening remarks from Nancy Desmond, Chief Executive Officer, Center for Health Transformation and a welcome from Jane Miller, Chief Operating Officer and Executive Vice President, Gallup. Governor Dave Heineman of Nebraska provided the opening keynote address, followed by Newt Gingrich, former Speaker of the House and Founder, Center for Health Transformation who addressed the current economic situation and the need for health transformation.

Serving as moderator for the first panel, An Individual-Centered Approach, Ron Wince, President and Chief Executive Officer, Guidon Performance Solutions introduced the release of the new CHT white paper, The 21st Century Intelligent Health System: An Individual-Centered Approach. Participating panelists Lynette Bisconti, President, Gateway for Cancer Research and Patient Advocate; Steve Bonner, Chief Executive Officer, Cancer Treatment Centers of America; and Wayne Sensor, Chief Executive Officer, Alegent Health discussed the necessity of Individual-Centered care and why it is an essential component of the 21st Century Intelligent Health System.

Afternoon panels focused on Culture of Safety and Quality, 21st Century Healthy Communities and Healthcare that Works: Solutions for a 21st Century Intelligent Health System.

James Harter, PhD, Chief Scientist, Workplace Management and Well-Being, Gallup and Kurt Schusterman, Vice President, Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index, Healthways provided members with an overview and update on the Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index, which was first unveiled at the CHT member meeting in March 2008.

The member meeting concluded with final remarks from Newt Gingrich, who thanked all panelists and members for their participation and encouraged leaders to continue their ongoing efforts to transform our current health system into a 21st Century Intelligent Health System.
